Thessaloniki – Poetry in Music

Having been inspired and set to music by unique poems by great Greek authors, the legendary band Underground Currents will perform a special concert at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Emilios Riadis Hall, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, which, with the aim of presenting these exceptional original compositions, new and older, constitutes the first stop on the journey of the intercultural connection with Berlin of our classical heritage with contemporary artistic expression. At the same time, the visual artist Rena Papageorgiou exhibits her creations on stage, depicting the portraits of our great poets with her unique abstract yet respectful and interesting style. The artists, with their poetic compositions set to music and visual depictions, treat the past as a creative condition that is the inspiration for this action, a tribute to poetry and artistry, through an atmospheric concert that will offer a unique experience to the audience.
The opening speech of the professor from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens focuses on the significant contribution of the group “Underground Currents”, which has established itself as one of the most remarkable continuers of this artistic tradition. Their work is a creative reinterpretation, which illuminates new aspects of the poems and brings them closer to the modern audience. Through music, the poems acquire a new life, while at the same time preserving their essence and roots, offering a unique experience to the audience.

Speaker Andreas Michalopoulos, Professor of Latin Literature
