“POETRY IN MUSIC”

Having been inspired by unique poems of great Greek authors, the legendary band Ypogeia Revmata will be performing a special concert that aims to present their exceptional, original compositions in their entirety, new and old ones, specifically arranged for an atmospheric concert, setting the stage for future discussion, inspiration and evolution of the innate connection between our classical heritage and contemporary artistic expression.

The 120-minute concert will consist of two parts:

Α. A speech by Andreas Michalopoulos, Professor of Latin Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), a presentation and a short, creative dialogue between the artists-creators of the compositions, regarding their inspiration, selection and final setting of the poems.

Β. Presentation of the group’s poems set to music, together with classic favorite songs in an arrangement by the artists themselves, in a concert where the poetry of our ancestors, Karyotakis, Palamas, Gryparis, comes to the present day through the most modern version that could be heard, always with respect towards time, the setting, the creators and the audience.

The past, the poetry of these great historical poets, is the inspiration for this performance – a tribute to poetry and art, through an exclusive and refined atmospheric concert that will offer a different approach to the pieces and at the same time a unique experience for the participants. Through music, poems take on a new life, opening paths of communication with wider audiences, while retaining their essence and roots. The speech of the professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens focuses on the important contribution of the band “Ypogeia Revmata”, which has established itself as one of the most remarkable continuators of this artistic tradition. Their work goes beyond the boundaries of mere musical performance; it is a creative reinterpretation that illuminates new aspects of the poems and brings them closer to a contemporary audience.
