Inspired by unique poems by great Greek creators, the legendary band Ypogeia Revmata (Undercurrents) will hold a special concert aiming to present its exceptional original compositions in full, both new and old, specially arranged for an atmospheric concert, laying the groundwork for future dialogue, inspiration, and development of the innate connection between our classical heritage and contemporary artistic expression. Works by Karyotakis, Palamas, Gryparis, and Varnalis meet the band’s distinctive electric sound, creating a unique musical experience that bridges the Greek literary tradition with contemporary artistic expression.

The event will be introduced by Andreas N. Michalopoulos, Professor of Latin Philology in the Department of Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, who will speak about the timeless value of Greek poetry and the dynamics of its transposition into contemporary musical language.

The professor’s opening remarks focus on the significant contribution of the band Ypogeia Revmata, which has established itself as one of the most notable continuers of this artistic tradition. Their work constitutes a creative reinterpretation that illuminates new facets of the poems and brings them closer to contemporary audiences. Through music, the poems take on new life while retaining their essence and roots, offering audiences a unique experience. The concert will conclude with well-known, beloved songs by the band for the London audience.
