National and Kapodistrian University of AthensContemporary Greek Women’s Poetry: Dimoula, Gogou, Angelaki-Rooke
The Athens segment culminates in an extensive tribute to contemporary Greek women’s poetry, focusing on the work of three iconic figures of Greek poetry: Kiki Dimoula, Katerina Gogou, and Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke. Three poetic voices who, through different paths, highlighted issues of identity, freedom, memory, social sensitivity, and existential inquiry, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary Greek thought and creation.
The event is dedicated to contemporary Greek women’s poetic creation and its contribution to shaping modern Greek literary identity and collective memory. The event aims at highlighting the female poetic voice as a central pillar of contemporary Greek culture, and also to reposition poetry in the present as a living and active artistic medium.
During the event, coordinated by professors Andreas Michalopoulos and Giannis Xourias of the Departments of Latin and Greek Philology at NKUA respectively, participants will include actors Gerasimos Gennatas and Elisavet Moutafi with readings of Dimoula and Gogou, the group Magic de Spell acoustic, featuring Thodoris Vlachakis, Marinos Sofiou, and Michalis Skarakis, performing Gogou’s poetry set to music, as well as Duo Dilemma performing Angelaki-Rooke’s poetry set to music, composing a multifaceted artistic ensemble that unites different generations and different forms of expression around the common axis of poetry and culture.
